Sakaja - why I ditched Uhuru and Raila for DP Ruto.

On Wednesday, in an interview with Radio Citizen, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja stated why he chose Deputy President William Ruto over President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga for presidency.

Sakaja, who is vying for Nairobi governorship, claimed he saw what happened to Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi coming.

Wanyonyi had been approved to run for Nairobi governor on an ODM ticket, but after a consensus, he was requested to withdraw his bid for Jubilee's Polycarp Igathe.

"Lakini niliona mbele nikaona this is what they believe in nikaona vile wamepanga siasa zao Nairobi hii, ile kitu Wanyonyi alifanyiwa ilikuwa mimi nifanyiwe, nipangwe na si kwa ubaya watu wanasema kama huku tunapatia rais, pande hii lazima watu wakae hivi," Sakaja stated on radio citzen.

"So, I humbly told the boss to let me go where I have a chance and where their policies are about ordinary people." He added.

Despite his closeness with Uhuru and the former Prime Minister, Sakaja stated that it was time for him to be his own man.

Although he joined the opponent Ruto's party, the United Democratic Alliance, the senator stated that his connection with Uhuru and Raila remains strong and that they keep communicating.

"Raila Amollo Odinga is like a father to me. Of all leaders, Raila Odinga is the only one who has come to my home for my son's birthday. His role in Kenya's history cannot be erased," he said.
