Elon Musk has made a bid to purchase Twitter for more than £30 billion.

A regulatory filing suggests Elon Musk has proposed to buy Twitter for more than 40 billion dollars (£30.5 billion).

This happens few days after announcing he would not be joining the platform's executive board.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has proposed buying 100% of Twitter for $54.20 per share in cash, valuing the company at $41.3 billion.

Musk said earlier this month that he had purchased a 9% investment in Twitter and would join the board of directors, only for Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal to reveal just days later that  Musk had changed his mind.

Now, the billionaire entrepreneur has asked to buy the company entirely, claiming that he believes the site needs to alter in order to grow and better encourage free expression.

Following the publishing of the regulatory filing in the United States, Elon Musk tweeted to confirm his bid, writing, "I made an offer..." and including a link to the SEC filing.

Twitter has also revealed that the offer has been received and that it will be reviewed.
